Abstract:$250 Million Gas Carrier Deal Signals a Bold Step Forward in Energy Reform.

Nigerias gas sector has reached a major turning point with a fresh wave of investment. Temile Development Company Ltd signed a contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries to build an 88,000-cubic-meter Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC), valued at over $250 million.
A related construction supervision agreement was also signed with Nigeria LNG Shipping and Maritime Ltd (NSML). With this deal, Temile‘s total investment in Nigeria’s gas value chain over the past four years has now exceeded $450 million.
The project is a key part of Nigeria‘s “Decade of Gas” strategy, launched in 2021 to transition the country from oil-dependency to a gas-driven economy. The latest investment highlights Nigeria’s vast gas potential and the growing role of local companies in shaping the countrys energy future.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, emphasized that the project will significantly enhance Nigerias gas transportation capacity and support its broader economic diversification goals. It also signals renewed confidence from both government and private stakeholders in the future of gas as a growth engine.
Despite the strong momentum, Nigerias energy transition still faces critical challenges. These include maintaining a stable policy environment, expanding local technical capacity, and fostering stronger collaboration across the industry.
Ekpo urged stakeholders to stay committed to innovation, cooperation, and local content development. He stressed that with the right support and collective action, Nigeria can position itself as a global player in the energy transition and ensure lasting benefits for its economy and people.
